Mary Lynn Swiderski has worked with children for twenty-five years as a 4-H educator and health and nutrition educator with Michigan State University Extension. She retired in June, 2014. She has degrees in journalism and family life education. She has always loved creative writing, poetry, books, and music. This is her first children’s book as told to her by her husband, Victor, prior to his death. She was born, raised, and continues to live in Saint Ignace, a small, quaint city located just north of the historic Mackinac Bridge in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
“Barney came to Brewer Farm in 1971. The people who took care of Barney decided they couldn’t keep him because he was too big for their apartment…”
After her husband was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, Mary Lynn Swiderski began learning stories about his farm animals and time as a farmer.
Together, before his death – they published a children’s book, “Barney the Farm Dog, a true story” that shares of Swiderski’s husband and his dog. Not only is the messaging of the book fun for all ages, but it was also published to bring awareness to multiple sclerosis.
Between the fun story life and engaging illustrations that follow Barney interacting with other farm animals – children will definitely enjoy this short story.
This is a very cute story, and I am very happy to tell people about it to bring awareness to Multiple Sclerosis.
You can purchase a copy of the book by visiting here. This would make a great gift for a small child on your list!!
